Two weeks after American missionary Phyllis Sortor was kidnapped in central Nigeria, she was released into the care of her church. Shortly after her disappearance at the hands of masked gunmen, her captors issued a ransom demand of $300,000 — a demand her family was unable to afford. Although Christians in Nigeria have been heavily persecuted by Boko Haram in the last two years, the radical Islamist terrorist group is not responsible for this abduction.
